Recent Golden Sands Shangri La Review: "Overall a good experience. Room, service, cleanliness, etc., was as expected. Check-in staff seemed a bit unhelpful. Checked-in at about 1930, asked her if there are still seats for dinner. She said all fully booked and asked us to find a place outside! I walked over to the main restaurant (just across the lobby) and they gave us a table straight away! But  rest of the staff was friendly and very helpful, especially the staff a the restaurant, which I had several meals in."

A short guide to Feringgi Beach

Batu Feringgi, or “Foreigner’s Rock,” is a beachfront resort strip along Penang’s northwest coast, 13 km (8.1 miles) from Georgetown. Feringgi faces the Andaman Sea and has plentiful water sports activities, including parasailing, banana boat rides, and jet-ski rentals. A roadside night market livens up the neighborhood each evening.

Garden Cafe - Casual café on lobby floor. Unenclosed dining area cooled by ceiling fans. Views of garden, pool, and sea. Rattan furnishings with floral upholstery. Serves buffet breakfast and à la carte menu of Western and local cuisine for lunch and dinner; occasional buffets on selected nights during off-peak season (nightly during peak season).

Sigis by the Sea - Mediterranean-themed dinner restaurant. Themed buffets include barbecues, seafood, and others. Alfresco dining on the fringes of the beach. Colorful tablecloths, bright blue chairs and brightly colored hand-painted crockery create a cheerful atmosphere. Band from lounge plays nightly (except Tuesdays). Open for dinners only.

Recreation

The Shangri-La's fitness center on the ground floor is approximately 50 square meters (538 square feet) and has two treadmills, one step machine, one rowing machine, two bicycles, and a free-weights area. A personal trainer is also on site. Open from early morning till late night.

Two irregularly shaped swimming pools face the beach, and a small children's pool with a slide and a 20-seat jetted pool complements. Pool games are occasionally organized for guests.

The Golden Sands Resort features Adventure Zone, a 10,300-square-foot indoor family entertainment center with drop slides, modular play equipment, a game zone, and theme birthday party rooms.

Other recreational facilities include a multi-purpose court, a La Petanque (Frence bocce) court, three tennis courts, and a par 3 executive golf course. A water sports center by the beach provides equipment for non-motorized water sports like fishing, canoeing, and windsurfing.


Private operators along the beach provide opportunities for other sports such as jetskiing parasailing, and horse riding. Across the street from the hotel's front entrance are bicycle and scooter rental shops. Biking trails can be found at Teluk Bahang National Park, about 7 km (4.5 miles) away.
